ALKYN wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born after years of experiencing the same problem over and over again.
As Product Managers responsible for developing and sourcing products for global brands, we've spent our careers analysing customer feedback, identifying shortcomings, and designing products that genuinely solve real-world problems. We've worked alongside manufacturers around the world, overseen thousands of product improvements, and understood what separates an average product from one that people rely on for years.
But one problem never seemed to disappear.
Whether it was a weekend camping trip, a day on the boat, a long drive, a worksite, or an outdoor adventure, traditional eskies and cooler bags always came with the same compromise - ice.
You buy the ice.
You carry the ice.
You watch it melt.
Your food gets wet.
Your drinks lose their chill.
Then you need more ice.
Despite advances in technology, truly portable refrigeration still wasn't practical. Compressor fridges worked brilliantly, but they were heavy, bulky, required dedicated power systems, and weren't designed to move with you.
We believed there had to be a better way.
Engineering a Different Standard
Rather than accept the limitations of existing products, we decided to build something ourselves.
The goal wasn't simply to make another portable fridge.
It was to create the world's most versatile portable refrigeration system, one that combines premium cooling performance with genuine portability.
The result is the ALKYN Pack18.
A compressor-powered backpack refrigerator that runs from 240V AC, 12V and 24V vehicle power, USB-C power delivery, and compatible 18V power tool batteries. It cools to -2°C or deep freezes to -20°C, allowing you to take true refrigeration virtually anywhere without relying on melting ice.
Every feature has been carefully considered through the lens of product management and real-world use. Every material, component and design decision has been challenged against one simple question:
Does it genuinely improve the user's experience?
If the answer was no, it didn't make the final product.
