What is the ALKYN Pack18?

The ALKYN Pack18 is a fully portable 18-litre compressor refrigerator built into a premium backpack. Unlike traditional cooler bags that rely on ice, the Pack18 actively refrigerates or freezes its contents anywhere you have power.

How cold does it get?

The Pack18 can operate from:

• -20°C (Deep Freeze)
• Up to +20°C

This allows you to freeze food, keep drinks ice cold, transport medication, or maintain fresh food without ice.

Does it need ice?

No.

That's the point.

The Pack18 uses a high-efficiency compressor refrigeration system, so there's no melted ice, no soggy food and no wasted space.

What can it hold?

The 18-litre capacity comfortably fits combinations of:

The Pack18 is designed to withstand rain, splashes and harsh environments, but it is not designed to be submerged underwater.

How much does it weigh?

Approximately 7kg empty.

What power sources does it support?

The Pack18 can operate from:

• Compatible Makita 18V power tool batteries*

*Battery adapters for Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Ryobi are sold separately.

Can I run it while driving?

Absolutely.

Simply plug it into your vehicle's 12V or 24V outlet while travelling.

Will it flatten my vehicle battery?

The Pack18 includes low-voltage battery protection to help prevent excessive vehicle battery discharge.

For extended use while parked, we recommend using an auxiliary battery or portable power station.

Can I use a power station?

Yes.

The Pack18 is compatible with most quality portable power stations that provide sufficient output.

Performance

Is it a real fridge or just a cooler?

It's a genuine compressor refrigerator.

Unlike thermoelectric coolers, the Pack18 maintains temperature regardless of ambient conditions and can even deep freeze.

How noisy is it?

Very quiet, Less than 45dBA

The compressor operates similarly to a premium portable camping fridge and is suitable for campsites, vehicles and indoor use.

How much power does it use?

Power consumption varies depending on:

• Ambient temperature
• Set temperature
• Contents
• Frequency of lid opening

A general use guide is approximately 1 Amp per Hour At 25°C ambient temperature, providing up to 6 hours cooling at -2°C setting on a 6Ah Power tool battery. 

Thanks to its efficient compressor, the Pack18 is designed for excellent energy efficiency.

Durability

Is it built for Australian conditions?

Absolutely.

The Pack18 has been designed with harsh Australian environments in mind, from construction sites to remote campsites and everything in between.

Can it be used on a boat?

Yes.

It's ideal for boating, fishing and marine applications where portable refrigeration is required.

If used in marine environments, avoid prolonged saltwater exposure and wipe down with fresh warm water using a clean cloth, adding a silicone or lubricant spray to the zips to avoid build-up of salt that will cause corrosion.

Can I take it camping?

Definitely.

Camping is one of the Pack18's primary uses.

No ice.
No melted food.
No constant trips to refill the cooler.

Cleaning & Maintenance

How do I clean it?

Simply:

• Switch the unit off.
• Remove contents.
• Wipe the interior using warm water and mild detergent.
• Dry thoroughly before storage.

Avoid abrasive cleaners or pressure washing.

Does it require maintenance?

Very little.

Keep ventilation areas clear of dust and ensure airflow around the compressor vents.

The ALKYN Pack18 is supplies with 2 x additional filters for the compressor cooling vents.
